Pineapple Salsa
Homemade pineapple salsa is a simple and refreshing mix of sweet and savoury flavours. Using canned pineapple, red onion, cilantro, lime juice, and a pinch of salt, it comes together quickly. Kids can help with chopping and mixing, making it a fun and tasty kitchen activity. This salsa is great with tacos, grilled meats, or as a colorful dip for tortilla chips.
Recipe
Ingredients:
1 can pineapple tidbits or chunks, drained (can also use fresh)
1/4 red onion, diced
1 lime (or lemon)
1/4 bunch cilantro
1 tsp salt
Equipment:
Cutting board
Knife
Large mixing bowl
Mixing spoon
Measuring cups and spoons
Can opener
Strainer
Directions:
With adult supervision, finely chop onion and cilantro.
Open your can of pineapple tidbits and strain any juice. If you want smaller chunks of pineapple, cut these to your desired size. If you are using fresh pineapple remove the skin and chop into cubes.
In a large mixing bowl, combine pineapple, chopped onion, and cilantro. Add salt and the juice of 1 lime.
Taste the salsa and add additional seasonings to your preference.
Storage:
Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 days.
