What We Do

Nutrition and Food Literacy

Nutrition and food literacy helps kids understand where food comes from, how to make informed choices, and how to build confidence and practical skills in the kitchen. It empowers kids to nourish their bodies and share what they learn with family and friends.

Build Food Skills

Kids learn basic kitchen skills like chopping, mixing, measuring ingredients and knowing how to read and follow recipes to prepare meals at home. They also learn about sustainable, affordable meals that are healthy and important for long-term health.

Foster Community

Sharing meals, cooking together and learning about food as a group helps build connection and a sense of belonging. We help build a safe space for kids to learn from each other and celebrate food within the household.

Why It Matters

Healthy Habits for Life

Building food skills and healthy habits in childhood creates life-long healthy eating habits.

Addressing Food Insecurity

1 in 5 children in Ontario live in a household that has experienced some level of food insecurity.

Bridging the Gaps

We provide children with an opportunity to cook in their own homes with their families, which results in durable change to habits while also supporting families with free ingredients during the summer months.

Who Benefits

Our program begins with the child but supports the whole family. Children gain cooking skills, nutrition knowledge, and lifelong healthy habits. Families enjoy nutritious meals, time together in the kitchen, and reduced financial stress during the summer. Local communities benefit through job creation and support for small food retailers, while our partner agencies are able to extend vital services to their members at a time when resources are stretched. It’s a collective impact model that strengthens families, communities, and the systems that support them.
