Restaurant-Style Salsa

This chunky salsa is perfect when paired with the cheesy taco pockets. There is a lot of cutting in this recipe so be sure to practice safe knife handling practices! If you have any leftovers, it can be paired with chips or nachos. This salsa is a good source of vitamin A which helps with night vision. Enjoy!

Yield: 5 Serving

Ingredients for Salsa:

  • 1/2 white onion

  • 1 clove garlic

  • 1 & 1/2 cups canned diced tomatoes

  • 1/2 tsp salt

  • 1/2 tsp sugar

  • Juice of 1 lime

  • 1/4 cup cilantro or parsley

  • 3/4 tsp cumin

  • 1/4 tsp black pepper

Equipment:

  • Cutting board

  • Knife

  • Large mixing bowl

  • Mixing spoon

  • Measuring cups and spoons

 

Directions:

  1. With adult supervision, finely chop onion, garlic and cilantro.

  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine tomatoes, chopped onion, garlic and cilantro. Add salt, sugar, cumin, black pepper and lime juice.

  3. Taste the salsa and add additional seasonings to your preference.

  4. Serve with Cheesy Taco Pockets or baked tortilla chips!

Tip: If you prefer a less chunky salsa, chop the tomatoes more, or use clean hands to crush the tomatoes!
