Food Waste Audit

Age: All
Key Learning: Understand how much food waste is produced as a class on a weekly basis
Equipment Needed: clear plastic bags, measuring tape, scale
Type: Lunchtime Education


Directions:

  1. Explain that as a camp, each class or group will be completing a food waste audit to see just how much waste we all produce, and see who can produce the least amount of food waste.
  2. How can we make sure we limit our food waste as much as possible?
    Ensure garbage and recyclable materials are placed in their proper bins
    Only take as much food as we think we can eat (remember you can always come up for seconds!)
  3.  At the end of each lunch period, have students place all FOOD waste ONLY into a clear plastic garbage bag.
